Curry received her Ph. D. in History from Michigan State University in 2006. Her research interests focus on resistance and protest struggles in 20th Century Africa

This work addresses forms of grieving in the northeastern Johannesburg township of Alexandra, South AFrica. It argues that Alexandrans employed grieving as a form of resistance.
